For the Best Silk Screening Results, Provide a CAD File

Applied Powdercoat has extensive powder coating capabilities, but we also provide other metal finishing services, such as silk screening.

Our team uses this process to apply text, logos, and other designs onto parts. We primarily silk screen end-user-facing parts for commercial, medical, and industrial customers.

Providing a CAD file with your quote request is the best way to get timely and accurate silk screening results. Keep reading to learn why.

What Is Silk Screening?

Silk screening, also known as screen printing or serigraphy, is a popular technique for applying designs, patterns, or graphics onto various surfaces, including sheet metal parts. It’s a versatile and cost-effective method that yields precise and durable results. This process usually takes place after a surface finishing treatment like powder coating.

With silk screening, we can apply intricate designs with a wide range of ink colors and special effects. It’s commonly used in industries such as automotive, electronics, signage, and appliance manufacturing, where customization and branding are essential.

Why a CAD File Is Essential for Silk Screening

Often, customers provide a PDF with their silk screen requirements. Unfortunately, that format doesn’t give us the information we need to fulfill those requirements accurately. With a CAD model, on the other hand, we can easily print the design you want and get to work quickly.

Details to indicate in your CAD file include the precise color(s) and the specific font(s) you want to use. Identifying the thickness of the silk screen is also critical. If the design is too thick, the part could become out of tolerance.

What Happens When We Don’t Have a CAD File

When customers don’t include a CAD file with a silk screening order, it jeopardizes our ability to create the design they want. The more we understand your needs, the better we can serve you. For the best outcome, we need to work together on your project and develop a partnership. Transactional relationships simply don’t produce quality results.

If we don't receive a CAD file, we’ll need to create a model before moving forward with your order. Though this process is not difficult for us, it does take time that can delay your project. Plus, without your input, our CAD model may not be what you had in mind or meet your specifications.
